First Log Entry - Visit Date:  August 30, 2024, Friday

First visit to Torrey Pines State Reserve (TPSR) South Beach for this project was August 30, 2024, Friday, @2:00 pm with my friends Kathy & Eloise.  We met at a mediterranean restaurant in Del Mar and carpooled to TPSR.  It was sunny, a bit windy, blue sky, and many people on the beach and helicopters.  We started the walk from the base parking lot and headed south, to the Flat Rock.  We were not able to go further south pass the Flat Rock because the tide was consistently coming in quickly.

Throughout the 2.25 miles (round trip) low tide walk, I took pictures of the walls/cliffs and what caught my attention (images below with captions).

Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach (headed North just a bit south of Tower 1:  "My Heart is this Big" because according to my husband, I have a big heart.  I have been taking this picture for a few years now.  Each time, the colors are different depending on how the light is reflected onto the cliffs.  It is also a good reminder for me to see the erosion and appreciate how it is shaped as a strong "Heart."  Yes, I can, mend a heart broken into "gazillion" pieces, many times over.  I am resilient and a Lifelong Learner.

Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach (left to right:  Kathy, Adel, Eloise.  We have been friends since 2016, when we started walking for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Breast Cancer Walk San Diego.  I have known and been friends with Eloise because we worked together at Escondido Union School District.  They are my sisters from different mothers and families.  Today, they are part of my life, day-in-day-out.  I am most grateful for my "Super Friends!"
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach - Flat Rock Tide Pools.  A family exploring the tide pools on the Flat Rock.  This image caught my attention of the family.  A family who walks/hikes together lets me perceive the "Power of Family."
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  There were a lot of beach goers just relaxing and taking on some rays.  I wondered where the driftwood has been and strategically ended up next to the sun bather on the left.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  A beach set up for one.  Hah, I refer to this as "Me Time."  The lady was headed back from the water and saw me taking a picture and gave me a nod of permission/agreement.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  These cliffs/walls remind me of Bryce Canyon in Utah.  I find it fascinating millions of years ago, the water was this high and strong to form the crevices. The cliffs put me in my place as an individual trying to make a difference and giving back in simple & minute ways each day because I have been given so much.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  The multiples colors of this section is different depending on the time of day.  On August 30, 2024, the multiple colors were vibrant and attention-grabbing.  The erosion helps me visualize the power of the waves, water, and time.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  These are steps from the Beach Route at the Docent Table, a few feet from the Flat Rock.  Some days, we start our low tide walks at the parking lot and then go up these steps to the Broken Hill and Razor Point trails.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  This one of the walls across the Flat Rock.  The green moss was well lit around 3:00 pm that day.  The bright green color caught my attention and the upward growth patterns.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  A wall of small barnacles coated this one section across the Flat Rock.  The clusters and formations caught my attention, like, there's strength in numbers and unity.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  I am going to call this "Circle of Life."  Heading north from the Flat Rock, this caught my attention because human hands took the time to create it and just perhaps, send me a message of "Pay Attention!"
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  One of the many residents, "Take My Good Side," why don't you?
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  Signs of erosion.  The layers of colors were well lit and exposed.  I am fascinated of the different color bands and the many, many years it took to form.
Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  I call these "nature-made" tables.  Some days, they are high up to my waist.  On this visit, they were low and lined up to my mid-calf, a lot of sand washed onto them.

Torrey Pines State Reserve South Beach.  Sign of life on the shore, it's interesting how the surf formed the shape/form of the seaweed. It's almost like dancing to the tune and flow of the water.
